“Mantras in Motion” offers a continuous 76-minute journey through mystical soundscapes, hypnotic beats and intoxicating vocals – global trance for the 21st century. This engaging CD encapsulates current trends without being trendy. Dreamy and rhythmic, for my tastes, has always been the magical musical formula for maximum entry into aural bliss., And “Mantras in Motion¸” achieves this with high marks, much of which is attributable to renowned Australian DJ Leigh Wood who compiled these tracks from a variety of global artists, some better known than others. The “Zen Connection” series of 2-CD boxes and the “Elysian Vibes” releases are also put together by Leigh Wood. Maneesh DeMoor's expansive opener sets the scene perfectly, followed by the tribal, organic sound of Desert Dwellers. Perhaps it's the delectable combining of innovative sounds from the modern day with the ancient wisdom of the mantra. Mantras are a simple word, phrase o sound that produces subtle vibrations that through repetition and focus grow in strength. They promote healing, insight, creativity and spiritual growth, and can attract abundance in every aspect of your life. What's fun about this is the entry of Boulder's Spring Hill Music into this expanding genre, having previously issued fine releases from Robert Gass (who offers a lively “Om Shanti” here), Michael Hoppe, and CD/Book tie-ins such as “The Mozart Effect” by Don Campbell. Canadian Adham Shaikh, Australia's outstanding Sacred Earth and Amanaska (also from Australia), and all make stellar contributions, along with Jai Uttal, Wah! and Australia's Bhakta. Four of the eleven tracks are "non-album" selections, while the others are from existing releases, all of which are ideally sequenced for maximum flow and effect. Bringing peace and tranquility into your life through hypnotic beats and chill out rhythms is now a tried and true route that many travelers are choosing. The only requirement is surrendering to the music, and that, I say, is the easy part, especially with a divine compilation such as “Mantras in Motion” |
