Without a doubt, this is the CD Stephen Kent has been waiting all his life to create. And while he has made significant contributions to tribal world music with prior CDs, dedicating this music to world peace stretches his reach & pushes boundaries beyond recognizable markings. He draws on the sacred aspects of many cultures, and the search for the higher good of ALL, as written in the liner notes. Musically, he uses the didgeridoo in a way that shows great respect for the Aboriginal people of Australia, and in solidarity with the spirit of all First Nation's peoples. While his didg playing is at the core of most of the tracks, it is far from the only voice. Kent also plays Cello-Sintir, guitars and bass, percussion, tape atmospheres, etc, while his co-hort, Simon Tassano adds loops, programming, samples, co-production & engineering. Their work together dates back to the days of Lights in a Fat City, when the sound of the didgeridoo was much more foreign & strange than nowadays. Other artists add their own magic, like Eda Maxyn, & Moroccan Yassir Chadly, each of whom adds amazing vocal tracks, as well as Peter Valsanis (drums, djembe), Steve Rothman Kindwald (Rajasthani flutes), Jim McRae (bagpipes, Arabic pipes), and Trance Mission mate John Loose. Because of the mind-bending variety, the CD seems to play extra long, with selections covering the beyond border sounds of many lands, both geographically and imaginary, interwoven with true mastery. Vocals and rhythms drawn from the core sounds elevate and inspire the music to reach new spaces, globally, & in the spirit of the intention of the artists. |
