The Dakini label seems to have formed this global triangle of unsurpassed excellence, along with France's Ultimae label and Canada's Interchill. Their brand of chillout exotica can't be beat, and they have not missed yet on any of their released, packaging, sound and innovation included. The works of Makyo, Toires, Ishq, and the collections like "Sky Dancing," "Fahrenheit Project," "Earth Octave Lounge," etc. are in their own league in many respects. Now comes Jairamji, the work of one Charlie Roscoe, who provides sampling, synths, guitars, dulcimer, mbira, piano and percussion. Amazing how it fits into the sound that Makyo, Toires, Ishq and others have already established, but I guess that is why it's on Dakini. Rather organic in its approach to rhythm, of which there is lots, and tribal with its use of overlays and pressing, sounds, this is a totally unique CD, as to be expected. But there is also a lighter, exotic touch through the use of Native flutes (on three selections), cello and violin, and some farout vocals (on two tracks, by Susanna Waters) |
