A breathtakingly beautiful CD, and culmination of the distinguished Mr. Hoppe's long and highlight-filled career. Some tracks border on the magnificent, with majestic, sweeping passages brought fully to life by the Prague Symphony. Others are pensive, emotional and filled with hope. Each track is a form of remembrance, offering songs of solace for the listener, and each features a different guest artist in tandem with Hoppe's keyboards. Besides the four compositions featuring the Prague Symphony, there are three pieces with the stirring soprano voice of Heidi Fielding. Other selections individually feature Backroads favorites Martin Tillman & Andrea Bauer on cello, Eugene Fodor on violin, Harold Moses on viola and Kenton Youngstrom on guitar. The final piece is a real gem: the magical treatment of 'The Parting' as arranged and performed solo by the legendary Vangelis in a hauntingly beautiful exploration of his meditative, restorative music. With this perfect album closer, it all adds up to one of the most beautiful and consoling recordings I have heard, illuminating a peaceful path that can reveal itself from the darkest of surroundings. "Solace" was nominated for a GRAMMY.
