“Is This Home”, in its simplicity and spaciousness, creates a beautiful landscape for the listener to experience and get lost in. In her debut album, on Gabrielle Roth's Raven label, Morgan Doctor draws on her influences from working with numerous singer/songwriters, world music groups, jazz groups and kirtan walli/wallahs. "Is This Home" has a way of getting under your skin. More than something to listen to, it becomes a place to be, a place to be comfortable, a place to be inspired. With natural rhythms and melodies that are as familiar as they are new, Morgan makes music that invites you in. You can walk into this recording & look around...make yourself at home. World and ambient elements paint an inner landscape. Originally from Los Angeles, Morgan Doctor is a Toronto-based composer, Junonominated percussionist and yoga instructor. Her impressive musical career has included collaborations with the Toronto Tabla Ensemble, Bob Wiseman and Tamara Williamson, as well as sharing the stage with such luminaries as Angelique Kidjo, The Tea Party, Jai Uttal, and Bhagavan Das. Drawing on her background as a yoga instructor and her musical work with Gabrielle Roth, Is This Home is study of music for body movement, incorporating ambient and percussive elements, looping samples, field recordings, and a strong degree of traditional songwriting. In a world of musicians who assault us with opinions & demands for attention Morgan Doctor simply asks, "Is This Home ...yes, I think so." |
